Tesselescence (van Dreven '81) is the first in a series of Paintings From Other Painters’ Paintings. It was commissioned in response to an original painting found at a second-hand store, likely painted by Hague artist Maarten van Dreven (1941-2001). A tumbling-blocks pattern was responsively painted onto the original artwork in dialogue with its colours and formal properties, while incorporating collaborative aesthetic requests from the work’s commissioners, such as gold leaf.
